noise by PS pump - need help

just noticed some noise coming from the engine bay...some sort of a worn pulley or bearing type of noise. It gets loudest closest to the power steering pump as I try and do a pass (with one ear as close as posible..) from left to right from the front of the car. I did replace the PS pressure hose about a month ago as it was leaking. I am wondering whether the PS fluid got too low affecting the ps pump. This was about 1,000 miles ago.

I am struggling on how to isolate the source of the noise so that I can do whatever repair is needed.

any inputs would be appreciated. It is a 91 560 SEL

thx,
emmy

I just finished washing my hands from chasing (its a tough one) and fixing that same problem. It got solved from advice, I'd have never thought of it, and its too easy to check. The belt. Its checked by just pouring some water on it, and a cheep fix is a spray can of belt dressing. And if that doesn't work a new belt isn't that much either.

thx. so what mb model did you have the problem on? The noise does that I have does not at all suggest that it is a belt problem, but it could be, based on what you are saying. what belt dressing did you use? hopefully it is available from my local store.

thx,
emmy
