Air vents in moon roof

How would one go about reinstalling the plastic air vents in the moonroof sunshade? They came out easily enough to clean but I'm cracking the plastic trying to get them back in.

I only found one thread related to this issue but the person wanted to remove the louvres. I haven't found anything about how to replace the vents. Is there another way I can get some direction on how to do this?
