W140 the winter beast!
Well, Cincinnati got pummeled today pretty badly (8-16") and I was interested to see how my S420 would handle the snow in a city that is totally unprepared for this kind of weather, and I must say that the car performed flawlessly, the ASR helping greatly. I had just put four new Conti CH95s on the car about two months ago so I figured between the massive weight of the W140 and new tires it should do pretty well, and indeed it did not let me down! My trusty old 300SD refused to go anywhere this morning, but the MXV4s are getting worn and I wasn't expecting much anyways in terms of traction (I always thought that the W126 was terrible in the snow--especially compared to the older W116 which I had during my years growing up in Cleveland, a city that KNOWS how to deal with a lot of snow!).
But I must say that the W140 wins hands down. I guess it also helped that I had a full tank of fuel (and that's 26 gallons in the S420). To all of you out there braving the winter weather, drive carefully and if you have a W126, I would suggest investing in a set of Arctic Alpins!

Two 100lb. sand bags in the trunk help quite a bit.

2 100 lb bags or one mother-in-law.
