The Star - Straight up or Bent Over?

Seriously, for those of you lucky enough to have a real star on your hood. Do you keep it straight up or bent back at a slight angle? Which is correct?
I like the slant look but the original Benzs had them stuck straight up so I suspect that is the proper etiquet.
I spend too much time behind the wheel.......

It depends on whether the grill is angled back or vertical. The star looks best if it follows the grill angle or lack thereof. On my 300E, I keep it slightly raked back.

I saw one the other day on a later model, don't know which one, and the star was turned sideways! BB

I think nowadays since the grill is slanted as stated that they are actually designed to be angled back a hair. IN the old days I remember they were straight up though. Then again so was the grill. My 190E's is slightly angled and my coupe has a flat badge. The 2005 C230K loaner I have is also racked back a hair.

That makes it more airo-dynamic that way.

If memory serves me, the W123s were the first to rake the star back for aerodynamics. I recall our neighbor got one and I, at all of 8 years old, felt robbed and appalled that such a long (and straight) standing tradition would be altered.

To me it looks best angled back on my E420, especially when I embarrass much newer "muscle" cars that "test "me

W123 and later are raked back somewhat. There is a detent, you may have to wriggle it around a bit to get it locked in, it's spring loaded to reduce damage to pedestrians if you hit one (not that I recommend hitting pedestrians...). If it keeps falling over sideways, the spring is broken, get a new one, they are easy to change.

Eariler ones stand straight up, although they have been spring loaded for eons.

Sttrrraaaight...

Hiya,
I've got a w126 (380SEL), and it looks better straight up, along with the nice looking amg kit.... although at the moment i dont have one... because some jealous $#$#% TRIED to steal it...
That didnt succeed... neither did they get away (without getting 'injured') hahaha Before i had to take it off... when i accelerated.. the sheer power of the 5L (yes... 5litre) made it slope backwards... which didnt look too good... unless you watch it do that.. hehe

It Depends How Much You Have to Pay to Fix Your Car

If the repair bill is high, bend over.
