Brakes Clunking When Lightly Tapped
My 87 230E is making a metallic clacking noise from the front right side when I tap on the brakes or go over a small bump in the road.
I originally thought this was the anti sway bar bushings but when I went to change them over I saw that they were still in very good condition. I can't see anything loose under there, anyone got any idea what else it might be? Cheers Last edited by Klaus Fluoride; 12-30-2004 at 10:44 PM. Reason: added text |

I'll take a stab at it, and would suggest lower ball joint.
Keep looking...eyeball anything that moves, or looks like it could move, closely. Try and to make it move yourself if you can, and listen for any noise, and look for excessive movement (compare amount of movement to the same part on the other side of the car, or better yet, to the same part that you know is good on another car) Good luck with your search....and be careful! BTW, for piece of mind...check the calipers while you're at it.

First thing I'd check is the caliper mounting bolts. I've had this happen a couple of times on my older cars.
