Wiper relay dilemma

Here is my problem. My wipers do not work on intermittent and do not seat properly. I read in a post that the wiper relay is the culprit. So, I am trying to use the wiper relay out of my parts car. My manual does not help me locate the wiper relay in either my 82 500 SL or my 76 450 SL parts car, though. So I pulled every relay I could find and am trying to find the wiper relay through the part number. Anyone have a better idea on where it is or what it looks like?

I guess another thought would be to trace the wires from the wiper motor to the relay. Problem with that is that the wires are taped in large groups, and to tear them apart you have a pile of spaghetti on your hands.

Wiper interval relay for 107 is behind dash above steering column has 6 wires

I couldn't find the relay because it was gone. The PO has thrown me a number of curveballs in the way of removed components, never fixing anything that was broken, etc.

I did find a 6-pin plug behind the dash on the firewall, just above the steering column. Right next to it is the 8-pin plug that ties into the transmission.

The connector on the '76 relay (parts car) is larger than the 82's 6-pin. Therefore, I could not use the existing plug. I did, though, remove the plug and map the wires (using the CD's wiring diagram) directly onto the appropriate pin on the '76 relay. The relay acted up for a few minutes until the cobwebs were brushed off. Then it worked perfectly, including parking the wipers after I shut off the switch.

I will use cable ties to secure the relay since I cannot plug it into the mounting bracket. The alternative would be to buy the '82 relay and plug it right in, but I think I'll try this out for a while.
