I have a 1990 560 SEL and have been doing some minor work to it. After having the passenger side air bag out repairing the heat, now the SRS light comes on when it feels like it. It doesn't just come on and stay on or come on in regular intervals. It just comes on when it feels like it, or sometimes not at all. I rechecked all the connections and even disconnected the battery again. Any ideas what it might be or where to look? Thanks!

That code reading system is analog, but there might be stored codes in the srs computer.

Most common problem is the contact brushes on the steering wheel, they will give a code 3.

The first rule of thumb is to "Check out the last thing I repaired (screwed with)".

After checking your last repair, check the horn hub on the back of the steering wheel. About an $80 part. Simple DIY. Check the archives with "intermittent SRS light".

This is definitely it if you notice a correlation between the intermittent light and turning the steering wheel.

check the brass contact ring on the steering wheel, they become contaminated with various auto related chemical cleaners and vinly protectant. you will need to remove the wheel to check and clean them.
