Exclamation 300se with no acceleration

I was stopped at an intersection and proceeded to step on the gas in my 1990 300se, which was driving perfectlyuntil now, and nothing. No acceleration at all.
I was inching thru the intersection- very scary. About 30 seconds later the car started accelerating, but once I stopped again the same would happen. I took it to my mechanic and he filled the transmission fluid, but said that it was down only about one pint. Does anyone know what this is? And how to fix it? I believe that the tach was going up when I stepped on the gas. Please help

Michael
