W210 cig lighter housing how to remove

I need help with my W210 cig lighter. Does anyone know how to remove the cig lighter housing from the ash tray area? I poped the ashtray and there is a small area I can get to the back of cig lighter body, Do I just bush from the back untill it pops out or do I have to take the whole consol apart?
My Cig lighter no longer works I use it to charge cell phone or the radar detector so I really need to have it working. The fuse (No.1) checkes out OK. so maybe the wires have come off or the ground connection is not good. The car is 99 E300 TD.

First remove the plastic trim cover around the shifter..Then Pop up the shift wood..Unplug the switches ..then Two screws for the ash tray assy...it will then slide out..very easy!

Thumbs up

Mark thanks for the reply. It may be a second nature to someone who has done it before, let me get some clarification from you.

1. Remove the plastic trim cover around the shifter.
2. Do I remove the shift bulbous handle (wood/leather)?
3. Do I remove the wood around the shifter itself?
4. Do I remove the wood around the windows switches but pulling up on the wood, there are no screws holding it down?
5. Unplug the windows switches
6. I guess by then the two screw will be visible for the ashtray area.

Please fill in any other details I missed.

Finally a rally nice day to do some work on the car. We have over 60F today, tomorrow it will be cold again and may snow.

The wire connector with small light bulb to the cigar holder was disconnected. I reconnected it and all is well.

Step by step instruction:
1. Remove the black plastic shifter console surround.
2. Set brake and place shifter to neutral.
3. Pull the windows button tray by opening the cup holder and pulling-up from the cup holder opening.
4. Then you see the two screws holding the ashtray assembly which is removed.
5. Close the cigar/ashtray door then remove.

Now one can replace the unit or attach wires etc.

To reinstall revers the procedure.
