Installing 12Volts socket in the BOOT

Hello,

I would like to install a 12V socket in the hood of my new 420CDI W211, built in June 2008. Any hints or advise?

Is the hole for the socket already machined somewhere, or do I have to drill?

thanks in advance,

any picture would be also appreciated.

The hood? What are you talking about?? Why would you need an outlet on the hood??

Oh, you want a socket on the inside of the hood so you can use 12v lights and tools? Is that right?

Just be sure to fuse the line! Never run a +12v power line without making sure it is fused near the beginning of the line, unless you like putting out fires.

12V outlet in trunk

FYI, aftermarket stereo installers run 12V to the trunk all the time to power amplifiers, equalizers, etc. No big deal.

You figure out what you will be powering to know the amp draw, you decide then to use 1/0 gauge, 4/0, or 8/0 wire, then buy the components (connector, fuse holder, wire, etc), and then take an afternoon to pull the wire from the battery through a rubber grommet in the firewall, through the dash, under the carpet in the plastic wiring channel, and through a grommet into the trunk (you may have to drill a hole). Decide where you want the 12v outlet, mount it, and wire it.

Install the fuse in the holder under the hood.

Done.

Tres facile
