I have a 94 C280 with occasional hard starting. You have to crank it more than usual in order to start. I am having a difficult time finding the problem because it only happens 1 out of 20 starts and it doesn't matter what engine temperature.
Since the car has only 35k miles I only tried putting new plugs. Could it be plug wires or one of the coils?
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Overvoltage relay!

There is a problem with the original relays, part # 000-540-52-45. Make sure that you car has modified version 000-540-67-45. Its under the plastic cover(underhood) at the passenger rear of engine compartment! Silver relay with blue fuse about 4-5" tall, just plugs in!

M.B. Doc

Thanks for the great info. Can't believe you even had the part numbers. I checked the car and it does have the modified relay 000-540-67-45. Should I try buying a new one? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Vinamg

COuld be problems with flywheel position sensor or even fuel pump/delivery problem. Might have fuel system checked for fault codes to see if the computer sees any problem.

I have seen problems with ALL of the overvoltage relays. I would start there.

Also, I have replaced a handfull of the fuel pump relays. It is located in the trunk under the matt to the right of the spare. It is a green relay with a fuse in the top. I might throw one of those at it if I was guessing.

We sell 'em...
Thanks.

I seem to have some Cold Starting problems as well. What happenes is that the car will turn over, but really low RPM..say around 2-4 RPM. I tap the peddle a few times, and it finally kicks up to idle speed....It's a starmarked 95 c280..any comments?
Since I just got it, I'm putting a list of things the dealer should check out when I bring it to them in Mid Jan 60K checkup...any comments?
