putting new grill assembly together

i removed all the old emblems from my grill assembly and the old grill screen now i have a new hood star emblem and grill screen .. im painting the grill screen black since it came grey

now how should i assemble it.. put it all together off the car or put the grill screen in and put the emblems on when the grill assembly is put on the car..

It will be much easier to reassemble the entire grill assembly before securing it to the hood. Installing the hood Star takes patience and a pair of fine needle nose pliers to position the small crossbar while the spring is stretched.

i put the star on after i attached the grill to the car.. i thought i broke my new hood star but its holding on tight.. im not going to mess with it at all.. now i just need to find a nut to fit the emblem so i can secure it to the assembly

the emblem is just sitting there for picture taking purposes

Your local MB dealer will have the nut that fits the emblem.

It's a 10mm nut that holds the emblem.

And yes it is a PITA to pull the star spring down while positioning the crossmember. A 1/4" piece of coat hanger wire works just as good if you lose or can't get the crossmember in place.
