Question 1991 300e blower question...

Anyone ever experience problems with their blower motor in this car? If so, did you DIY? Is it a complicated job? I have my car in for valve job and trying to weigh the - vs. the + in having them replace it.

familiar problem

Do a search, you'll find tons of info.
In my experience, it is rarely the motor and usually electircal. First check the fuse, then the switches on the dash. I know on mine, if I hit the 'max' button I fry the fuse. So on auto it runs fine.
Replacing the blower motor is a pain, not particularly difficult, just time consuming. And the motor is expensive.
So, search this site, then check all elecritcals.

Yeah, what he said. I just lubed the bushings on mine. A moderate pain but not really difficult. It's accessable from under the hood. You get to remove all the waether stripping, the wiper motor, the plastic grills and a plastic cover that clips over the motor/blower itself. Beware of twenty year old plastic, it's brittle. A few drips of motor oil on the bushings & mine no longer squeaks and the current draw is way down. It needed it. I've read that it's a good idea to check the brushes when you're in that far, but I didn't. Getting dark, back hurt, needed a beer, etc.

The motor alone goes for about $100 and the assembly, $234 on eBay. Slightly higher at the dealer.

Reassembly was, as they say, in reverse order.

Great fun,
