1987 300e

Hi all.
Last night my son was driving our 300e home and noticed a buzzing noise under the hood.At the same time the gauges stopped working. When using the turn signal the noise go`s away.
We poped the hood and located the noise coming from the multi funtion relay behind the fuse panel under a screwed down lid.
The relay unplugs and looks to be no problem to replace.Does this sound to you pro`s like the problem. The relay is the larger of the bunch approx 8 to 10 pins.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When that happened on my 87 300E it was one of the fuses in the under hood (drivers side) fuse box. This is pretty common, I think # 3,5,or 9 may be the culprit, but I don't remember (try the search using fuse and buzz as key words - this is discussed a lot). It is probably a good idea to replace them all and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. They corrode, and even though they may look fine, and may even test fine with a meter, they are prone to hairline cracks as they age and can do wierd things. Cheap place to start looking, anyway. Good luck!
