Transmission slightly overfilled!
Hey guys,
I just got back from the shop after changing the trans fluid, trans filter, and fuel filter..... The fuel filter made it much better! But... After I got home I put the car in park and just wanted to double check the trans level... I checked it while the temp gauge read 80C and the engine idling in park... Level ground as well... I measured about 3 times but it is about half a cm above the max indention... how can I get rid of that bit of fluid? should I crawl underneath the car and try to loosen the plug a bit and let it drain some off? Or how can I "siphon" some out? I don't have a lift so trying to crawl under the low car would be pretty tough....

Although 1/2 CM is probably well within a reasonable limit and probably won't do any harm whatsoever, if you really want to get a small amount out get some clear Tyvec tubing from any home improvement store and suck out a few ounces at a time, filling the tubing with fluid (it is clear so you can see it), then remove the tubing with your tongue or finger over the end or just pinch it so it won't flow back into the dipstick tube...then drain the tubing into a suitable jar, like using a very long straw...after a few times you will extract enough fluid to lower it within the range.

Which car? The 320 or the 300?
Also, be sure the tranny fluid is good and hot before you check it. Many believe it takes a good 15-20 miles of consistent driving in order to warm it up enough for a warm fluid check. If it's the 300E, there a 5mm allen head drain plug in the bottom of the tranny pan that you can loosen, remove, reinstall after draining what you want. Don't know about the 320, but it would not surprise me if it also had an allen head drain plug on the bottom of the tranny pan.

It is a 300E...
I got it done, thanks guys! I just got a glass jar and loosened the drain plug underneath the car until I got what I needed out of it... I drove around, shifting in all gears.... Did a couple of wide open throttles for good measure,,, Car now shifts very smoothly, my 2 to 3 gear shift no longer flares when warm! YAY!

Sorry about the late reply...
but if you still want a answer... Before the fuel filter change when I tried to pass somebody, I would depress the gas pedal until I hit the kickdown switch and that car up shifted (to about 3500 to 4500 RPM) as the engine climbed to 5000 RPM, it would start to sort of max out, but was only a 5100 RPM... the fuel filter change pretty much freed all that up... Engine sounds and feels and operates much more smoothly at higher RPMs... There is also less delay at a stop light, I get a much more immediate response when I intially accelerate. (That may be due to the Lubro Moly fuel cleaner I put in though....)
