Shifting issues remain after...

Hello all,

Well we rebuilt my vacuum pump on my 80 300CD and while my door lock issues have gone away... its still having shifting issues when it first starts up in the morning and then comes back every so often during the day. Flares from 1-2, and sometimes 3-4. I have searched the forum and had hoped rebuilding the vacuum pump would do the trick. Any further suggestions?

Thx,

Rob

How about a homework assignment? Read the following, the 'bible' on how these transmissions...

Jim,

Have read it a couple of times and realize this part of it is leaving me in the dust... I was hoping there was other items I could check easily first.

THANKS!

Rob

Once you have a good source of vacuum, the rest is adjustments. Vacuum modulator must be set to give firm-to-hard shift with no vacuum applied, then the vacuum proportioning valve at the IP is adjusted to soften the shifts at part-throttle.

First, try disconnecting and plugging the vacuum line to the transmission, see what kind of shifts you get. If there is still a flare, the modulator may need adjusting to produce more pressure.

Best Regards,
Jim
