Harsh Kickdown

I've looked through the threads and not found anything decisive.
A friend is looking to buy a 300e and it looks in great condition except for a harsh kickdown from 4 to 3.
Is this a bowden cable or vacuum pressure fix?
I have looked over the car and it's otherwise in great condition (lambda works, alternator 13.4 volt charge rate, fule pumps draw less that 7 amp and are quiet, minor accident repair only, no rust, v smooth idle and power delivery etc)

Any ideas? Thanks

Vacuum leaks. Been there. I wrote up something in the diy section on finding them. people also say the tranny and diff mounts can cause this but I had mine replaced to no avail.
