91 300ce---Funny noise
Anyone have some suggestions for the following problem:
There is a rattlesnake/ ch ch ch ch ch train noise coming from the right side of the motor(passenger side).....sounds like one of the pully driven parts. It does so upon cold start and warm start, and lasts for about a 2-3 minutes. help me please.... a Last edited by e320 coupe; 06-03-2005 at 06:02 PM. |

It could be the timing chain tensioner. I had the one on our 1992 300CE replaced because it was making a strange noise. Get a MB-trained to diagnose your problem before you cause some serious engine damage. It could also be the air pump.

Could be the air pump. It is activated during warm up.
It is located next to the alternator. Follow the wire which activates it's clutch over towards your Washer fluid reservoir. Start the car, then disconnect the wire at the connector. If the noise went away, then you have found your problem. Just leave it disconnected. Air pumps are in the $400 range. Steve |

air pump
yess!!! Unplugged the smoke pump and noise stopped...plugged it back in and noise persisted.....sweet..
