500E rear wheel clunk - driver's side

I've got a pronounced "clunk" in my driver's side rear wheel, mostly over sharp low speed bumps. And mostly/only when there is only a bump for that wheel, like a man-hole cover. Big high speed bumps and dips that affect both wheels don't seem to be a problem. Any ideas what to check first, ect?
