Window Switch Replacement 1991 190 E
Does anyone know how to remove the console plate (small wood panel) in a 1991 190 E in order to access the window switch? I have to replace the left drivers window switch please help? :sun_smile

Use a small flathead screw driver with something soft covering the tip and carefully pry up the thin plastic border surrounding the shifter. Then use something with an L shaped end (a small allen wrench works well) and pull up on the back, under part of the wood. It should come loose and then you have access to the window switches. Lightly pry open the black plastic tabs surrounding the switch and remove.
Just be careful not to scratch or bend the wood at all as the clear coating cracks extremely easily. |
Thank you my friend, with your great info it took about 5 minutes and I didn't manage to crack the clear coat!
Many Thanks Mike :) :sun_smile |
If your switches are like my W126's from 1991, you can take it apart and clean and lube it and reinstall ... or, you can do this and swap it to a rear switch - point is that rear switches get very little use and might work for 10 more years ...!
