Driver door installation - need tips

I'm installing a new door on my 83 300TD wagon. Anyone have any tips on getting it lined up. In the past I've just done it with trial and error, but think there must be some tricks of the trade that make it easier.

Getting all those vaccuum lines and wires back in was a real joy...
