HELP!! - 2000 Mercedes CLK 200 - Battery Dead, and cant get Trunk / Boot open!

Hi All,

I need help.
I have a 2000 CLK 200 (RHD)

I have been away for a few months, and the battery has gone completely flat - the only way to get into the car is by using a key to unlock the door.

To make matters worse, the battery is located in the boot, and I cannot get into the boot to open it
I think the previous owner has damaged the boot lock, and it does not open at all with the keys (I have never had to use the key to open boot before -always been electronic).

What can i do? Is there any other way to "jumpstart" or "tap into" the battery from another part of the car - Only for 10 seconds whilst I hit the boot release button?

Your help will be much appreciated

Try one of those charger sets that hook into the cigar lighter, your ignition has to be on in order for the circuit to complete to the battery. This should give you some time to get the trunk lock to activate. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip.

Have tried this already.

The problem is, if the battery is completely flat, the car does not allow the ignition switch to turn ...

It doesnt allow me to turn the ignition key at all

Well, then you are going to have to get in the trunk, and if the manual lock is not working you can remove the license tag light between the lock button and the middle of the trunk, fish around in there for the release bar and slide it to unlock the trunk. I have never tried this on a CLK, only on an SL, but I think the locks should be simiar. There really is another way, you could probably hook power up to the ground of the car and the positive terminal of the starter to charge or replace power from the battery. This might work as well, but be very careful as to not short it out. Also there may be locations for your electrical and alarm components under the front floor of the passenger side, remove the plastic panel and there is a large positive continual power junction there as well. Good luck!

Thanks - I really appreciate all your help/

I am based in the UK, and have a RHD car.

Is this positive power junction on the drivers, or passengers side of my car.

And, which wire do I hook up my jump leads to.

Is there anywhere I can hook up a battery to in the engine compartment? Maybe that could avoid me ripping up the carpets?

how to jump the trunk battery?

Hook up the RED jumper cable (positive lead) to the starter terminal post. Connect the Black (negative) cable to the engine metal somewhere. That should give you enough voltage to open the thrunk, maybe even start the car.
