exhaust system 300E 87

I need to replace the resonator on my 87 300E. Is it possible to just change the resonator? I read some have a one piece system? How do you distinguish?

thanks

Is the Resonater the center muffler?

If so, I had mine replaced at an exhaust shop. I purchased the Ansa brand center muffler for $160. I then paid the exhaust shop $40 for the installation. I guess mine was 1 piece, because they removed the old one with a metal saw. They then welded the new pipe back in place.

The OE system is single piece welded from the converter outlet to the tail pipe, but both Mercedes and aftermarket replacements are sold as two pieces - center and rear section. The center section has a nipple extending about 2" from the resonator body. You cut the existing pipe at the appropriate location and clamp the new center or rear section to the existing remaining section.
