Engine Knock after oil change

1993 300E 2.8
114K

The car got an oil change last week, then I left it sitting in the garage for about 6 days. When I started it this morning, the engine started to run very rough, had engine knock, shook vilolently for a few seconds like it had no oil. The idle started to get better after about 10 seconds and finally ran normally.

I thought there was no oil in the car, but there was no oil spill underneath and there was oil when I checked the dipstick.

Anyone experienced this too? Is there a part that needs attention/replacement/repair?

Thanks.

First thing that pops into my mind is an incorrect or defective oil filter.

engine knock

an engine knock could be a bad spark plug wire...
on the m103 six cylinder it will run on 5 cylinders

or it could be an internal engine problem probably in the bottom half
like a piston bearing.... or smothing in the bottom of the engine...

(now at this point I am out of my league)
I would think that if it was a piston or lower bearing if you got lucky and it was the front of the engine and you could remove the oil pan i would think it might be possible to disconnect the piston from the crank and replace the bearing.... but i am only guessing... but i am the type of guy to try it...

A 93 2.8 is a 104 motor. The problem is most likely stuck lifters from sitting for 6 days, perhaps related to the new oil, perhaps not. There are oil additives for such things. The other solution is to not let it sit for 6 days, or if you do turn it over many times before letting it start.

my sons 300e will have a lifter tick for a few seconds. I use 20w50 dino in it....

I may back down when the summer winds down and try 15w40 Rotella or a synthetic of similar weight to see what happens.

runs great... that tick tick tick is a bit annoying at start up, however... goes away in a few seconds.....
