Question Which type of tranny I have?

After lots of maintenance, I am attacking the tranny oil and filter next.
But which type of tranny I have 722.xx ??? for a MB 1988 300E w124.030 chassis?

Also any reccomended foils for that particular tranny?
Any advices?

I read somewhere that MB posts a list of reccomended fluids for the car but when I asked my dealer he was suprised and offcourse he had to get back to me (which he never did). Anybody can tell me where can I get this list?

Thanks for your input
ACM

Should be a 722.3. For the recommended fluids see another dealer or a smarter person at that dealership, or call MBNA.

it looks like most of the people in my dealership are either lazy or
Anyway, it looks like that I have to order the fluid list and that it will get here in the middle of the week. Meanwhile I was planning to do the tranny oil change today.
Does anybody have the MB Fluid reccommendation list that can scan it and post it here?

thanks for your help

Trans Fluid

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic transmission fluid. You can also use the fluid for GM transmissions. Are you going to drain the torque convertor???If not you need should....Jim

Jim, I do not think I will spend the money for synthetic oil.
My philosophy is to do the tranny every 30,000 miles or 2 years and use a good quality oil non synthetic.
I am planning to change the converter oil too.
I think it takes 6.2 liters for the whole change.
BTW i do not think I need any special tools such as temperature probe or special dipstick.
The manual does not ask for this stuff at all.
thanks

Use dexron III/mercon trans fluid, has mercedes approval, good quality and is relatively cheap.

If you drain the convertor, don't fill the trans all at once, fill with about 3 liters first and then start the eng and let run for a few seconds.
This will refill the convertor and avoid over filling the trans, then add an additional 3 liters, now you will need to get the trans upto operating temp (approx 80 c), and then slowly top up trans to avoid overfilling.

ozzy.
