New Style A/C Compressor installation

I have a 1992 300CE and maybe this has been discussed but I couldnt find it when I searched, anyway, I think my compressor is going, when i use it a lot the car runs funny, idles bad, and it squeaks, not too bad just yet but pretty soon I'm going to need to change it and am thinking that I could use one of them new fangled cycling types, that flip on and off, because I dont think this ones like that? Or something better, I have this theory that maybe theres a more efficient one because the car turns into a dog when the A/C is on. All i know about it is that its a nipondenso.

Question WHAT are your high/low pressures?

Austin,

Are you describing the near terminal drag of a compressor just about to
"Lock Up" ???

Side Note: I've searched High and Low (no Pun) for a replacement
compressor that will fit an "E" engine that is not Nippondenso (WITH THE
Dreaded Teflon coated pistons. Compressor fails, damned Teflon goes ALL
THROUGHOUT the system....AND you end up replacing EVERYTHING!)

I dunno the pressures, haven't checked, but yes the near terminal part, with the lockup imminent, is whats going on. I have heard a compressor lock up, but like I said, it's not that bad yet (I hope), and the A/C works, pretty much as good as it ever has, but I'm trying to get the thing changed as soon as I can, and I try not to use it too much, but it's like 104, I mostly try not to drive at all really.

Are you saying I'm stuck with this thing? Well, a new one, but just like it? Theres gotta be something. I was thinking just find the best compressor available, then make it fit?

This sounds more like an engine or engine control problem than a compressor problem. Your computer should adjust you idel speed automatically. Typically the AC compressor uses about as much power as the car uses to drive down the road at about 60 MPH. If the engine is lacking power there will be a very noticable difference when the compressor is turned on.
