My 400E was rear ended today! It's built like a tank!

Yeah, I was rear ended, no big story here. It was on the freeway, I was probably hit at about 20mph.

What has suprised me the most is how tough my car is.

Her car the redesigned Jetta had the whole front end pushed in about 6" to 1'. The hood, bumper, lights, all gone; but the air bags didn't go off, so it wasn't too bad.

My car looked as if nothing had happened to it, the trunk still closes perfectly. Upon some inspection the area the holds the spare tire under the trunk is dented in about 4 inches but that's about it. There might be further damage but I can't tell.

All I have to say is, buy a w124. I don't know if the front's of cars are more easily damaged (probably are) over the rears, but it sure seems as if w124's are built rock solid.

This is a bit off topic, but I hope it is appreciated.

in college I had an old 1969 Chrysler Newport. (about two city blocks long)
I was stopped at a light when a drunk hit me. It pushed the car several feet..

I got out and the first thing is see is the drunks front end.. he can't even open the door because the damage went that far back...

my car had a cracked tail light. A huge chrome fender was may 1/4 inch askew.

BTW, the Jetta front end is probably designed to collapsed... I think our much older 124's are designed the same way. It's good to know you are ok. and that the rear end can take a hit.
