Mysterious brake light out problem

Mysterious brake light out problem

Car is a trusty 1997 W202 C230 (fond memories of european delivery pick up this time in 1996...

)

The right brake light is out.

> No bulb out warning on dash.
> Replaced with 3 different new bulbs (P21W 7506 OEM Sylvanias)
> Replaced right rear bulb holder assembley
> All other bulbs work

What gives? Any hints, ideas where to start?
