I'm a little baffled. reading the owners manual the firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 but my car is wired as 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2 It has a rough idle and a pulsing feeling wile driving. I changed it to the corect order according the the dist.cap and it won't run at all. Any ideas?

Make sure you're starting at No 1 and continue in the direction of distributor rotation.

I just got this car and it seems to be a basket case. I'm thinking someone has removed the distributer and miss aligned the gears. Could you tell me if number 1 cylinder is left or right front as you sit in the car. I've never worked on a german car engine before.

front < 1 2 3 4 > rear passenger side
< 5 6 7 8 > driver side Firing order 1 5 4 8 6 3 7 2

I found the problem. It was ME and my american car thinking! The firing order is corect, I numbered the cylinders wrong in my head. Time to search for other reasons for the rough running.
Thanks for your help ![]() |
