Just bought a 1997 E320

Hello,

I'm an old member who stopped visiting a while ago because I sold my two mercedes, my reason for this was, because of MB Autowerks closing down. I felt my cars wouldn't get the same amount of love they got from Donnie and the crew. Anyway I own a small dealership and sell cars for a living now, I ran across a beautiful silver E320 at the auction and bought it. The car is in good shape and has no serious problems except two minor ones.

1. The pulley infront of the waterpump wobbles which I'm guessing means the water pump is going bad, it does not leak coolant thru the weephole yet.

2. There is no transmission dipstick, the cap is on there but no stick, I tried to use a magnet to pull it out but I can't seem to get it. I'm guessing that maybe the dipstick slid down further but I don't have any way of finding out, I would appreciate any help in solving this mystery. The transmission shifts fine but I want to solve this dipstick mystery before I drive the car.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Trans dipstick

I don't think a trans dipstick came standard on that car. I do think you can buy one from the dealer if you want one.

no dipstick

I think that your car would have the 722.6 transmision and as such has no dipstick. Apparently these tranny's are VERY sensitive to level and quality of fluid and MB want's you to have the dealer check/maintain the fluid level. I think if you try a search you will find all kinds of good info.

Cheers,
Matt
