Hi. I'd like to find out what varieties of M110 (double-cam "280") exist, both USA and, more important, "Euro" (or gray market) engines, especially fuel-injected varieties around 1980-85; as well as their horsepower ratings. An example would be M110.994, which I know is for a GWagen, with a mere 150 hp. I have heard there are also M110.996, .987, and .990. What are their horsepowers, and what other varieties exist?
In advance, thank you very much. |

update on info received so far
Thanks to everyone who have contacted me so far -- please keep them coming, especially on those closer to the last years, ca 1985.
Although I've got info from some books on some models that were officially sold here in the USA, but I can't seem to find enough on Euro/gray-market versions of these engines, which is what I need. On these Euros, I've received some intriguing bits of info -- but I need more I'm particularly interested in the: M110.987 (is this in a '80-85 280SEL/Euro ?) -- horsepower? M110.990 (possibly in a '77-85 280SL/Euro ?) -- horsepower? for those also interested, let me share that I've been told: M110.921 165 hp M110.984 186 hp and 177 hp (two different opinions) M110.988 185 hp (also, that the USA version had 142 hp) Also, I've got figures from that the W126's 280S had 156 hp, while the 280SE/SEL had 185 hp -- but there's no mention of whether these are USA or Euro versions, AND no identification of which versions of M110s these are. Thanks again everyone. |

The W126 280S would definately be a Euro, and, unless they sold 280SE/SEL's in the states too, those would be Euro too. Also anything without an "E" would have a carburetor.
Just out of curiosity, what are you trying to find out, or maybe I should ask, why? -Larry

from Larry: "...Just out of curiosity, what are you trying to find out, or maybe I should ask, why?..."
Larry, My GWagen's motor (1984 M110.994, 156 hp/166 lb-ft) is coming out to be swapped (with a remanufactured "long block"), and this is a fine opportunity to put in a stronger engine. I want to pick out the most powerful M110 version for the transplant -- the rebuilder will build it to any spec engine (including Euros) that I choose. Do you happen to know which one (compatible with my GWagen FI & ign. systems) that would be? So far, the responses seem to suggest the M110.987, .996, and maybe .990 as possible candidates, but I want to be sure. |
