Transmission problem, '87 190D 2.5 Turbo

Last night, coming off the highway down the ramp, turning right onto city street, I stepped on the accellerator, the engine reved up but the car didn't accellerate. The transmission was working fine up to that point, then only seemed to want to switch into reverse. The P, N and R do what they need to do. D, 3 and 2 don't do anything. Fluid level is OK. I looked under the car, the shifter looks fine.
Suggestions, ideas?

B2 piston? so no forward but you do have reverse.
