My body shop says that color DB172 is a metal flake paint. The paint looks like a solid color to me. He said that the metal flakes have already wore off. Did the factory ever have a metal flake option for anthracite grey?

It's a metallic, base coat/clearcoat.

Metal flakes come in all different shapes and sizes. I've seen many metallic paints where you don't see anything that glitters.
