swap 5.0l with w116 4.5l engine - input welcome

Can I put a 450sel 1977 engine and tranny into a 1985 500sel? Has someone done that? What needs to be changed?
Please help.

theoretically yes

anything will go anywhere if you have enough money. bt for starters the 450 motor is iron block and the 500 is aluminum. the fuel injection systems may be a lot different (that is a guess) and the trannys may be different.

or it all may be very similar except the block.

it will prob hurt the resale value and it will make the front end heavier affecting the handling.

on the other hand if you dont place a high monetary value on the car and just want transportation and the motor is free, prob fine.
