overdrive
i posted an auction on ebay for an auto tranny from a 1970 250c. the winning bidder is refusing to pay because he says the transmission does not have overdrive. i do not know wether it actually has overdrive or not. before i reply to this dispute i would like to know the facts.. can anyone tell me wether it has overdrive or not or how i can find out?
p.s. he is refusing to pay for the item that he already bid on and won having never asked me anything about the transmission or shipping. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF THE TRANNY:

I would say its a 99.9999% chance its NOT an overdrive....#1 its an automatic and even in the early 80's Benz had no overdrive automatic. Plus thats likely a 3 speed but I will admit I am not familliar with that model benz you say it was from.

was most definately not offered in the seventies on a benz. he should pay up.

There was, AFAIK, only one automatic available on that body in 1970, and it's probably the same 4-speed, non-torque-converter, fluid coupling unit used in the 108/109. There was no overdrive that was switchable, and the top ratio was direct, not overdrive. As was said otherwise, there was no overdrive automatic offered by MB in that year. As far as a switchable overdrive a la some British cars, I'm not aware that MB ever has offered same.
The successor box to that one was also four speed, but smoother with a torque converter, again with no overdrive and a 1:1 ratio in top. I may be wrong, but I think it wasn't introduced until a year or two later. There was a three-speed box introduced in the 107 when it first appeared in '71. AFAIK, it was only used with V8s. The guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He needs a simple explanation of reality, followed by an appropriate feedback posting if it doesn't take.

All MB auto trannies in 1970 were 4spds even the 6.3. The 3.5 v8 came out in 71 but still was a 4 spd. With the 1972 4.5 the 3 spd came out.
None of these were overdrives. All had final drive ratios of 1 to 1. The first overdrive auto trans was the 722.5 trans used in 300SLs 129 body. I would say around 1990. The 722.5 was similar to the 722.3 which started in 1981.

this tranny has a torque convertor and removable bellhousing....
i know OD is out of the question, but does anyone know the excact tranny number?

I can't even think of a MB trans with an OD gear. They are all just straight 3,4,5,7 speed auto gear box's.
