Having to take of pulley assembly and vibration damper to get to bolt for the alternator bracket. Having hard time loosing the bolt, affraid I will break the bolt if too much force is applied. It is lefty loosey right?

are you sure you have to take off hb? if it can be avioded, do. getting them back on right is a tricky proposition. a ruined crank can result from the wrong move.

It's a 82 300DT. I have no choice but to remove it to get the last bolt for the alternator bracket. It has to be removed due to a broken ear on the bracket.

80 300CD trying to get this back bracket bolt off too. My alternator pivot bolt through this bracket was so rusted to the bracket the head broke off. Is there a trick to getting this bolt out? What ever became of your adventures with this beau3198 ?

I was thinking that maybe taking the themostat housing off would give a little room to turn a box wrench an 1/8 turn or so.

that you could get the entire aluminum bracket off from below so that any bolt could be gotten out. this would be tricky but preferable to removing the hb. reinstalling a hb is tricky and a ruined crank is often the result. replacing the crank requires disassembly of the entire motor.

think twice before removing the hb.

I am still trying to learn how to do all this internet stuff. I figured out how to find all my old posts. I finally removed the bracket without taking off the HB. I went to Sears and they sell the sockets that slip over the bolt head and then you use a box end wrench to turn it. It only comes in a set and it was like $28 to 35 not sure though. I also have found some knock off brands of the same sockets at Auto Zone.
