Which 6.9 Parts are good to have as spares?
At my last visit to the boneyard, there was unfortunately a '76 6.9 sitting amongst the mix. Since I own a '79 6.9 which I don't ever plan on selling, what parts should I "pillage" from the carcass at the junkyard to keep as extras for the future. Are there some components in particular which are extremely costly or near impossible to replace? In a perfect world, I'd just take that car home with me and keep it on the property, but that is not going to happen.

Suspension level valves. 1 rear 1 front about 500 each
Main pressure valve that sets on top of reservoir. the one with the disc that is cable operated from the cabin for locking suspension. Worth about a grand if you can find one new. Pressure sensor connected to 5th sphere in driver's front wheel well. Contains switch to instrument light indicating suspension lock or low pressure. Of course the struts. The pump from pressurizing the fluid that runs off the engine. It's worth about 700 or so. The nitrogen spheres if not already trashed would be nice. Just about anything else is garden variety 450 SEL Warm up regulator and fuel distributor might be M-100 specific Windshield washer tank is really rare Probably something else I am forgetting |

Oxymoron, thanks for the ideas. I'll head back out to the yard tomorrow and start pulling.
Well, the fastest I've had my 6.9 was almost 130 coming down towards stateline NV (Primm) from CA on I-15 at 3am. It felt very comfortable, but the wind noise definitely lets you know you are going fast. I'm sure that I could have gone faster, but the radar detector started beeping, and I didn't feel like going to jail that night. I'd love to find an oval track one day to obtain the 140-150 mph which is supposedly what the Euro model can do. ![]() |

If the engine is still in the car then pull the valve covers and check the cams. Pull em if they look good.
