Differences between 616 in a 74' and an 83'

I've been looking for a crank for my 74 240D and though I've spoken with a few places I have yet to find one. A 83 240D just pulled into the Junkyard down the street but I'm not sure if the cranks will transfer between the two years.

I wanted to know the differences between the years of engines and if I would be able to transfer cranks between the two years.

I recently picked up my 240D at the junkyard and it had rod knock. I pulled the engine and the crank was grooved fairly badly on the #2, and I don't know it's past, but it has already been oversized 1.00mm. I thought about buying the very rare, very expensive oversized bearings for it, but it is just going to be a problem again soon so I've decided to replace it.

I would have replaced the engine long ago, but this is my first Mercedes and it is being used for my learning curve, as I'm in love with the cars and I know I will be owning another one in the future, and I want to know all I can. So I figured tearing it all the way down would be a good way to do it. Also the engine seems to be in great shape besides the bearing problems as it started up without glowplugs right off the bat and after sitting for who knows how long.

If someone out there could give me their knowledge on this issue, and or where I can pick up a crank that is already out of a 240D it would be greatly appreciated.

of course

i just threw away a block from a 74 240 that almost certainly had a good crank. i dont know if it is possible to get it back or not. i can check. i also have an 82 240 block with a broken rod with a probably good crank. it may need turning. i dont know if they are the same or not. very well could be. if you want my 82 crank i will let you have it for 50. that will cover taking it out of the block and to the machine shop to be checked to be sure it is turnable. you pay shipping. if you wanted it turned, i could have him do it and you pay him for it. it might be ok wo turning. no way to know wo micing it.

let me know if you want me to do any of the things above.
