What oil weight/brand would you recommend for my car?

I have a 85' 380SE with 263K. No leaks and still does not burn oil. I have heard that you should not change the weight/brand of oil on a older engine if a certain brand/weight has been used to a long time. I am wondering if I should contact the PO and ask what oil he used, or try something different that someone here can recommend for a older, high mile engine. Also- question about the anti-freeze. It has the green anti-freeze in it. I want to change it over to the "Zerox" or MB fluid. Should I just drain the actual radiator and leave what is in the block (in other words is some "mixing" OK?), or should I start it and let the pump flush what is in the engine out as well? Or, should I just leave well enough alone, since the car does not overheat?

Thanks!

as an aside to the oil question, I have been using 10w40 Castrol GTX in all of mine, but my owner's manual seems to suggest 15W40. The only problem with that is there is no 15w40 oil available at retail stores locally except oil designed for diesel motors...is there any harm in using the Delvac or Delo diesel oil in my gas cars?

In Kuwait the best one that the dealer sell is the German Titan 15-40. It's for the best performance and reliability.

Get rid of the green ASAP and use either the MB or another whos name eludes me but it's red. But get it all out of the engine.

Do a search on oil, theres lots of discussion on oils both here and on BenzWorld.

As I don't live in a cold climate it's not such an issue over here. I have no idea if where you live gets really cold, ie snow?

Cheers

86560SEL, I recommend using either 15W40 mineral oil or Mobil 1 15W50 oil with that engine. The original factory fill was 15W40 mineral oil for that vintage vehicle. As for the coolant, remove all the green coolant and switch to MB coolant ... has the proper ph (less than 8.0 when mixed with water) which prevents embrittlement of plastic cooling system components and erosion of aluminum components.

No there is no harm, indeed they are outstanding oils for gas cars. Try a search on Delo.

I like Mobil 1. I'd read the manual and use whatever weight MB says.

Probably 5w-40 or 15w-50 off the top of my head.

Thanks for the replies. I live in the southeast USA, so it does not get that cold, but it is the "northern" part of the southeast, so it can drop to the upper teens occasionally, but typical winter lows are the 20s and 30s and highs in the 40s and 50s. Then in the summer, typical lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s and highs in the mid 80s to lower 90s, so not much of a temperature spread, as opposed to a lot of other places in the USA- where some places drop to -30*F or -40*F in the winter, and over 100*F in the summer- such as the northern plains.
