broken bolt head need help!!!!
Today I was doing my brake rotor replacement on my 88 260e and I snapped the 5mm hexbolt that secures the rotor to the hub. Broke off right where threads start. There is a little screw showing in the back but not enough to get a good enough grip on an extreamly stuck bolt. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

it is really only there to hold the rotor inplace while you are working, or the caliper is off, it can be drilled, if it is sticking out the back you may get lucky and while drilling it will screw on through the otherside, while i am not telling you not to fix it, once the lug bolts for the wheel are on and secure the purpose of that bolt is eliminated, nothing for safety concerns |

Just like Ray said the bolt is not necessary. On American cars a spring clip is put on one of the lug studs for the only purpose of keeping the rotors from walking of the vehical as it moves down the assembly line.

I agree with both ray and john. Just make sure that the hub area is flat to allow the rotor to sit flush.

Kevin, apply some penetrating fluid and let it soak for a few hours. Then use a screw extractor to remove the remnants of set screw and replace it.
