He scanned it with a 5k Buam scanner.. He said the module wasn't getting power. But when I opened the door panel and checked for 12V, it was there.
Well it doesn't matter now because I just ordered a new door control module for $125 shipped.. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know if it did the trick or not. |

Autozen: I have to agree with your comments
an S class is a expensive car to buy and to fix. The service writer at the dealer I use told me of a S class owner who had a HVAC problem. Most of the system the writer told me is under the dash, just to R&R the dash was $1500 and by the time they fixed the problems, the owner of the car had spent $4000 for the repair. The service writer went on to say if I had the same problem with my C Class, the bill would probably be $1000 or less, I forget what exactly the problem was, but for some reason S class parts are a lot more expensive than the C E M etc.
Even my 79 450SLC, parts aren't bargain basement. I was lucky I got a good sound car, but just repairing the ACC Servo and getting it working correctly has cost over $600, mostly for labor tracking down vacuum leaks. and replacing a check valve and repairing the servo, which was only $95.

Benzmeister,
Not all S classes are that expensive to maintain. It is just the 140 chassis and for two reasons. First of all the car is plagued with design flaws and component failures like never seen in an MB before. Secondly MB has inflated the price of replacement parts way beyond normal. As an example those dual pane side windows were between $80 to $120 when the car was fairly new. Now I believe the price is several hundred dollars. I believe MB is doing its best to get those cars off the road and out of people's memories. They are wonderful to drive, but so are all the other S classes. I believe it is MBs biggest mistake since the 115 chassis with a carbureted twin cam.

What years were the 140 chassis made? I had a
student a fews semesters ago, that had a 92 S500? I think. It was a bucket of bolts, but it was a rough car when he bought it. He found out after the sale, it was in a accident someone broadsided it. He finally gave up on the car before the semester was over.
I was watching a show on SPEEDTV, called 5th gear, it is made in Britian. They compared a 95 SL coupe and a Jaguar coupe. One comment was the SL was one of the best cars Mercedes made and were relatively cheap for what you got. Almost the same comment about he Jag, but the SL had the retractable top. My 79 450SL with 114K miles and was well taken care of is a gem to drive, once you get use to driving a car again, and not point and steer, like my 99 C280, which don't get me wrong is a wonderful car, handling power and looks are great. But the 450 you got to drive.

Hi autozen, you state that you "believe MB is doing it's best to get those cars off the road and out of people's memories"? I'm not sure what you mean. Concerning the cost of maintenance and repair of 140's, I agree with you, but don't be fooled. The 140's aren't the only high maintenance S-Class MB's. The 220 chassis isn't exactly a bargain for a DIY'er to own!!! The oldest 220's are barely five years old. Believe me, it'll take deep pockets to keep one of these cars in good shape for 250,000+ miles/fifteen years.

ILUVmalfunctionindicator lights,
I agree. S class cars were never intended for the proletariat. They should never be in the hands of working class people who can't afford them. Josiah Wedgewood started this whole thing when he made Knock offs of Queens Wear.
