Vacuum hose mess in newly acquired Benz

Hey guys, just picked up this rig and don't really know what's going on with the vacuum hose mess.

Here are the facts
78 Mercedes 300d Non-Turbo - 155k, trans shifts smooth

I've got a mess under the hood as far as the vacuum hoses that come out of the firewall. First off, i've got to hoses plugged with golf tees. Another "y" connector that leads to no where.

Large cluster from firewall includes the following;

Thick black cable

green/yellow \
yellow/white : ---- This "y" cluster goes to nothing
yellow /

brown/blue ----- Injector pump

golf tee --\
brown ---------- this "y" connector goes to brake booster
golf tee --/

Never mind the "spicket" apparatus. Not sure why it is there but it's not malfunctioning so it's cool for now. Which one is the vacuum pump? There is a port (male fitting) on top of the fuel injector unit that looks the same diameter as these vacuum lines but has nothing going to it.

Check out the photo. I tried to label as well as i could. Left side is towards the front of the car.

Thanks for all your help in advance,
Garrett

I'm not sure what you have there but it all looks new. That water shut off valve is quite a sight, that might be a heater hose.

Garrett

I believe there is a sticker under the hood by the right front headlight that shows the vacuum line connections.

JBR - yeah that spicket thing leads to the block
Haasman - We looked for that sticker but nothing could be found. Would another picture help?

Thanks

The line you have labeled "dead end" should be connected up to the line that goes to the vacuum pump, which you have labeled "to booster". The to booster line looks like you have an connection without a plastic vac line hooked to it. I would plug the check valve (the blue and black plastic thing) to the unused connection. It also looks like you will need to replace the 4-way connector on the dead end line, it is split so it may be leaking.
Try looking at the vac diagrams on Skinnerbox shop manual webpage. They may be helpfull as well.

Looks as if there may be leaks in your doorlock system, and that why someone unplugged those yellow lines, and sealed the system with golf tees. I believe the brown/blue line is the engine shutoff, so you may have a leak there too, and that why that one is unplugged.
Hope you get it worked out.

My guess on the shut-off valve is it's there because the heater control servo doesn't work. The PO probably used it to restrict or shut off hot water flow through the heater core. I used a similar shutoff valve on my old 76 450SE when the control box cracked and I had to find a way to reroute the water lines.
