1987 190e air bag question
Hi,
I just noticed the center of the steering wheel where the cover is is coming loose on both ends.Do i have to worry about air bag deploying while I'm driving?I can see the white cloth bag inside the wheel. Thanks in advance. Jeff |

The best answer is: If in doubt take it to a Mercedes Dealer and have them inspect it. Pay for the inspection and get it in writing.
Typically on your year car, the glove box door should have an air bag inspection sticker. Air bags are expensive (quite a bit of liability associated with it). My guess is the dealership will tell you to replace the air bag ensure proper operation. Haasman

You have to wonder, since the OEM airbags were only give an inital life of 10 years, then MB added another 5, so if your car (or any airbag that you get from eBay or recycler) is more than 15 years old, the bag has technically "expired." Does MB still stock those old generation airbags and will give them another 15 years?

I checked the price on my replacement airbag for my 560SL it was $2400 US. Mine has been expired for 2 years. I guess Im feel lucky. Every time I see an airbag for sale on E-bay, I always ask the expireation date and never get a reply. It' also nice to know that the airbags for my car are made by the same company that made the Space Shuttle booster engines.
