On my car, it's two small cylinders close to the battery... the engine in your car should be the same as mine (2.8l M104) so it might be in the same place. I took a photo of mine, but the cellphone camera turned it into a black and grey streak, so it's useless.
Phil has this for sale for your vehicle - R3035-85752 - but mine looks a little different (one of the cylinders is taller then the other):

I did say 'might' be in the same place, I didn't realise the W202's were that different from the W124's
How about in the engine bay on the passenger side - as I said, mine are close to the battery at the back and passenger side of the engine bay by the diagnostic connector. Look for the two metal cylinders in the photo above, they're about 2-5cm (1"-2") high.

ok, thanks for the help. I did find it in the rear corner of the engine compartment. what problem were you having that you replaced it? is there a chance these get plugged? is there anything we can do to avoid replacement to clean these?

When I was getting no hot air in the passenger cabin I thought that I needed to replace my duovalve as I thought I heard a noise coming from it.
After more research, it turned out to be the blower motor causing both the noise, and the lack of hot air (there was no cold air either, but because it was winter I didn't think to check). Replacing the blower motor fixed it. Failed monovalves are more common in the W126's, I've not seen many complaints from owners of W201's, W124's and W140's on this issue. What's making you think your duovalve is bad? I know there's a monovalve repair kit available somewhere.

This thread on benzworld has some information on changing or lubricating duovalve pistons (scroll down towards the bottom, as at the top they talk about A/C):
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1178385 The car they're talking about is an E320 from 1996, but it might help you
