1990 420 SEL Gas Pedal broken

Does anyone know if there is a trick to replacing thr accelerator pedal on a 1990 420SEL.
Mine is broken and I can't get the thing off!!

On the bottom side there is a flat plastic insert that holds the pedal to the frame. Take it out (towards the front), you my need to bent the clips in the rear. The lift the pedal up.
The part that is attached to the linkage must be turned and pulled off.
