Which weight synthetic oil to use.
It's for a '92 500SL with 160K. The manual says to use 20W-50 above 32F which is where it will be driven and all the Mercedes dealer service records show it was changed with 20W-50. I would like to use Mobil1 but all I found was that they only go up to 5W-40. Only Valvoline has a 20W-50 synthetic. Is it just as good?

Mobil 1 comes in 15W50. That should be suitable for your climate. Call the local MB dealer's Service Department and ask.

The parts dept. manager at the MB dealer told me that they use Mobil1 0W40 on all the MB vehicles.

Carlos, you're right the MB dealers use Mobil 1 0W40 in all the new engines. In the older vintage engines (up to 1995 or so) our local MB dealers used Quaker State 15W40 mineral oil.
