Headlight too dim
My original headlights are kind of dim, I can not see the road very clearly when I drive at night. What can I do? Also, I am thinking to install an alarm system, any recommendation for the old car. Thanks.

You will need to get some European Headlights. That will for sure, bring some very good lighting back. You dont necessarily have to buy the Bosch ones. There are many types you can find. I suggest you look on ebay. Searh this ebay seller "katmac imports" or similar. He sells euro lights for various MB. I just bought a pair of Euro lights from him. Made by TYC, they look like an exact copy to the Bosch. So far, I am very happy with them.

I put 4300k HID globes and Ballasts on my SLK. Great difference. About $250 on Ebay (dont get higher than 5000k if you want to see!)

I have 99 E320. Lighting mediocre. So I got Taiwan clear, non-fluted halogen.
Lighting was poor...dimmer, and had segmented beams out of the same lamp. Due, no doubt, to poor R&D, poor projector lens and reflector. So I went and purchased Sylvania Silverstar. slight improvement bot not really. Then I bought Philips Blue Vision. noticeably better but still so-so. Heated the Depo housing in oven and yanked the H7 projector out of there. Got my hands on MB E55 bixenon projector and grafted it to the Depo. Ohmygosh, we got light! Beautiful bright light. On high beam setting, the bixenon shutter swings open to reveal full beam (vs low beam which covers half of the beam). In addition the factory H7 high beam also comes on and that help a bit as well. I can almost help guide aircraft to land. HID is the way to go. Do *not* recommend HID kits which are designed to fit into your H7 sockets and H7 designed projector and reflector. You must use HID designed projector for HID to function properly and w/o uncontrolled glare.

New aftermarket lamps will probably be better than used OEM bulbs. But new OEM replacement bulbs are also brighter than old used bulbs.
Try changing the bulbs and cleaning the lenses first. |

Then perhaps yours has resolved the glare problem. Which kit did you buy? Would appreciate a picture of your beam against wall, say 20' away. thanks! (but I stand by my statement. the *majority* of HID kits dropped into a reflector housing produces degree of concontrollable glare. their reflector and/or projector lens were designed for focal length of halogen, not HID.)
