94 E320 W124 front end issue

First and foremost I would like to thank evryone for all the help I received in solving my last little fuse issue, all fixed and running...excellent. I just aquired the above mentioned vehichle around 3 weeks ago and I took my first long trip over this weekend. I am pleased to say that in every other way she's a runner...strong with plenty of get up and go and smooth but I have noticed something that troubles me. When I am parked on an incline of any sort and I have to back out or drive at low speed with the wheel turned extremely to the right or left I hear a loud rubbing type sound from the wheel well area. This does not happen when I am at a stop and turn the wheel only slow speeds so it seems power steering is fine. I also hear and feel like the front end is not as solid as I remember my other MB's to be. When I had the vehichle inspected it checked out fine but the shop did not test drive the car so perhaps it was overlooked.
I have stock OEM wheels and tires so no tire size issues that I can see. The mechanic I took it to did mention soon I will need rotors and pads for the front but I cannot imagine that being the problem.
I am trying to beckon the MB gurus out here to perhaps enlighten me while trying to find out what I could be up against. What type of price range for a repair of this nature? I am in Ft Lauderdale, Forida..thank you

Ball joints? Sloppy wheel bearings?

I've driven cars with bad ball joints that only give an indication when backing up with the wheel turned. It's a difficult sensation to describe except to say that it feels like the front "shifts" to the side. That would change the alignment of the front wheels while backing, but it doesn't sound like your problem.
Sloppy bearings could let your brake disks shift slightly in relation to the calipers/pads and cause some noise. Especially if the rotors are near the end of their life.
You didn't mention if you get the noise with the wheels turned while the car moves forward.
I might suggest that you might have an issue with the control arm bushings, but if a shop checked out the car and did a good job of it, those should be obvious.
