Trans Shop referral in Chicago area Anyone??

What I need is a trustworthy shop in the Chicago area to put in a rebuilt which I buy from adsit or some other reputable company.

Anyone know any trustworthy shops which would be willing to just install a trans I have shipped in? for a reasonable price?

I have a 94 sl320. I think shipping it in guarantees that the trans is in good shape when it comes in and avoids anyone trying to inflate needed repairs on the trans itself.

In otherwords - rebuilt trans is x dollars
-installation is x dollars

As opposed to rebuild and installation is y dollars.
(week later) Oh! you need a new pump which extra so we have to add b dollars to our original quote.
Oh! and the grommet holding is out so we have to add c dollars.

Anyone heard of transomatic in Chicago?

I have lived in the Chicago area, but really never used any indies there as I commuted to Wisconsin often and had my car serviced there.

What I would do is to visit the "good MB shops" section of this forum, go under Illinois, and read some posts about Chicagoland shops. There are some shops very highly recommended there, and NOT highly recommended as well - a great resource to start off with.

Then, call the shop and talk to them about your specific issue. Remember to tell them that you found them here - they enjoy being praised, and I'm sure will look kindly upon you for that.

Best of luck!
Michael

Mal,

What part of Chicago are you in? If you're in the west burbs, you should talk to Helmut & Vito on Ogden Ave in Downers Grove. I take my wife's ML there and their prices are very good.
