87 MR2 missing, take a guess
Well I was driving at 430AM to work yesterday, when I saw the empty road I decided to take the old rice rocket up to 100MPH for about a mile, when I came to the stop light I noticed the little engine was missing, now it sounds like my old VW fastback with a pancake engine, it misses up to 2800RPM at which point it sounds good but it's hard to tell if the miss is still going at highr RPM's. The timing belt was replaced 40k miles ago, so I doubt that it slipped.
Thinking, dirty injectors, fouled spark in a cylinder, dist rotor? Take a guess. I will post what I find after I take some stuff apart. Maybe adding a can of techroline may be the first option. ![]()

Try new plugs...
I think it may be a spark problem. Try replacing the spark p'z, with Bosch Platinum 2's, and since they come spaced, only take a few minutes to change. Platinum 4's in my opinion are a waste of money...if you have to reley on 4 prongs to makes sure your car gets proper spark, I think you've neglected your car to a point where a mercedes tech should fly out to smack you upside the head....but this is a toyota, you'll live.

It's a beater alright, bought it 4 years ago for 1k but it gets 30 mpg and where I work you don't want to park anything that looks good, it will get destroyed.
I did replace the plugs two years ago before the smog test, it barely passed, July will have to try again, will probably have to donate it. On the possitive side, I will soon be driving the 380 SL, as soon as I can put it back together, can't wait. ![]()

toyota that drives like a benz
I am a mercedes lover to the max, but I have to give toyota credit for making car's that don't break down even when people neglect them. For work I have a '92 Toyota pick up truck, which over the years has amassed 300k, with out a tune up, once a year oil changes and only defects so far have been the bushings on the starter that went two years ago, and the clutch last summer. I recently did the factory spark plugs, not because it was having problems, but I figured they'd probobly need changing. Amazing.
Mean while my mercedes has been babied since day one, and till 2 years ago was dealer serviced and I have all reciepts for manitance and repairs....with major break downs for a total of $13, 000....and I still love it to death...sometimes the wife gets a lil jealous ![]() Quote:

That's amazing, how many miles do you drive a year /often do you change the oil. 300K miles and still running good.
Toyotas are cheap transportation all right, they are not much to look at though and in an accident they probably bury me in the MR2. I love the SL's, all of them, keep looking for more of them to buy can;t help myself, to me they are like a good looking woman. hot hot hot. ![]()

So far here is what I found:
Put new plugs, new cap and rotor When I pull the wire off the #3 plug, the car doesn't really change. The spark is there but no fire. Must have a dead injector on #3
